Turning 15 means so many things but it also means transitioning from childhood to young womanhood. A Quinceanera or Quince is Spanish for “fifteen years” and is basically equivalent of the American Sweet Sixteen Bday celebration. A very important tradition is the father/daughter dance and I tried to capture all of the emotions that I witnessed during this intimate moment. I also loved the part of the ceremony where Christine was offered her sparkly high-heeled shoes to symbolize her entrance into womanhood. The choreographed dance routines were absolutely awesome and included cool masks and gloves. Although I’ve shot quite a few “Sweet Sixteen” Bday parties, this was my first Quinceanera and I must admit, I’m in love.
Christine is a sweet girl who is into sports and everything family! This cool chica inspired me in so many ways. Her style was fresh and fun to photograph, her family complete awesome sauce, and the entire experience literally has me thinking about shooting the next Quinceanera. I hope I get many more in the future because I’m totally hooked.
